Since April, our Alexa ranking has been moving up up and up.
I'd like to take a moment to document what I consider to be the major changes that made this possible.
1 -
We ditched mobile in favor of responsive design. While none of our pages are "mobile friendly", on the whole I don't give a fork. People want a useable website, not a limited useless piece of garbage mobile site.
2 -
Along with the responsive design, we simplified the interface quite a bit. No more side menu, and a much smaller header, and changed footer.
3 -
Ditched the member focus. 99% of our traffic is new visitors. Less than 1% is members. Disabling ads for members resulted in a zero percent reduction in ad revenue.
4 -
Rebuilt core content with a focus on fun interactions. The site is structured to give you endless characters to click on and explore.
